A series of bombings has hit luxury hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, killing at least 292

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Multiple explosions at churches and hotels around Sri Lanka on Sunday killed at least 48 people and injured many more, according to local news reports.

The sites included three churches convened for Easter Mass and three high-end hotels in Colombo, the capital.

At least 23 people were killed in Colombo, the Sri Lankan news media said, while 25 were killed at a church in the eastern city of Batticaloa.

At least 23 people were killed in Colombo, the Sri Lankan news media said, while 25 were killed at a church in the eastern city of Batticaloa.
The two other churches that were targeted were St. Anthony’s Shrine, a Catholic church in Colombo, and St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, a city about 20 miles north of the capital.
Local security officials said at least two of the attacks appeared to have been carried out by suicide bombers.
The sites were all heavily frequented by tourists, and at least nine foreign nationals were killed in the explosions, police told AFP.
